My love for him makes me do crazy things

Yesterday I got a phone call from The Plumber around noon. He informed me that one of his coworkers had had a baby girl, and would I knit something as a gift? Oh, and by the way, he needed it by 7:30am the next morning.

Umm...ok.

I have been wanting to make a Baby Bolero Jacket from One Skein, and figured that with the chunky yarn, and small size, I could knock it out by the end of the night. Only one little problem. Actually two little problems.
I don't own the book.
I didn't have the right yarn.

I thought a friend had a copy of the book that I could borrow, but she didn't. So I packed all 4 kids up in 5 degree weather and went to Barnes and Noble. Then we went to the LYS, and picked up a skein of Blue Sky Cotton.
By now it was 3 oclock, so obviously, I wasn't going to have time to knit this thing if I took a nap. I layed the 2 younger kiddos down, put in a movie for the older ones, and started knitting. Dinner was ramen noodles, and my laundry pile has grown into a small mountain.
I finished at 4am.
Did I mention that I don't even know these people???

It sure is cute though!

I like the jacket, but the design of it leaves something to be desired. Lots of seams in awkward places, combined with chunky yarn and hard to hide ends. I think that if I spent some time on it, I could tweak it so that the construction was a lot easier.

THE CONTEST

Did you think I forgot?
All of your guesses brought a smile to my face! I wish I could send yarn to everybody, but the winner is Mama at Neglecting My Kids!!!! Email me with your address and I'll send your prize out to you this week.

So what were we doing?
The Plumber and I were engaged in a rousing game of Twister! If you haven't played since you were a kid, playing this game as an adult makes you realize how old and rusty your body is getting. There was a whole lot of,"Ooooooo..... Ouch! My back! When is this game going to end?" going on. I lost. (On purpose, shhhhh!)

Multitasking

Last night I gave my 3 younger children a bath, played Battleship with WD, and cleaned the bathroom, AT THE SAME FREAKIN' TIME!

Beat that, Carol Brady!

If I could figure out how to do all those things and maybe play a banjo with my toes at the same time, I could soooo take this show on the road.

Happy Blogiversary to me!

One year ago I started writing this blog. I have had so much fun meeting so many great people, participating in swaps, and seeing all of the wonderful projects everyone has made. It has been a joy to write, and so much fun sharing my projects, mishaps, and thoughts with all of you. I hope to keep this blogging thing going for quite some time, and I hope you'll keep checking in to see what's going on around here.

Now, for what you all came for, the CONTEST!!

A few weeks ago my brother-in-law took this very flattering picture of The Plumber and I doing.... well, that's for you to figure out. What the heck ARE we doing?

I will give one skein of beautifully variegated tofootsies sock yarn to the first correct answer, or the most creative answer, if no one figures it out. Contest ends next Friday. Good Luck!

Seamless Hybrid

I haven't blogged about it, but I have been working on a Seamless Hybrid sweater from Knitting Without Tears. Like so many other women, I saw this version and just had to make one. Throw a cute guy into a great sweater, and women will pull out their knitting needles en masse.

The shaping in this sweater is amazing, when you're knitting, you think "Why am I doing this?", and then you say, "Ohhhh...." after you finish. I especially like the back shaping.

Aren't the contrasting hems cool?

Pattern: Seamless Hybrid
Designer: Elizabeth Zimmerman
Yarn: Cascade Sierra, 5 skeins main color, 1 skein accenthttp://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif
Modifications: none

I needed a quick no-brainer project, so I started a Le Slouch. I don't know if I can pull it off, but I'm willing to take the risk. My next project is from Rowan 40, also in the January issue of Simply Knitting.

I already have the yarn, and plan on swatching tonight. I know I still have the Eunny Jang Venezia sweater to finish, but...but... Dang it! I don't have to defend myself! I feel like casting on something fresh. You know you do it too!

YAY Sockret Pal!!!

My Sockret Pal has sent me my very own Little Knits gift certificate!!! How did she know that I have a secret (or is that sockret, har har) love of gift certificates? The gift certificate is often seen as lower than a regular gift, like " Oh sorry, didn't have time to buy you anything, so here's a gift certificate." But what better feeling is there than spending money that you don't have to feel guilty about? I mean really, which of us would say,"Darn, I guess I HAVE to spend this money on yarn. I so much would have rather gotten an ill chosen automatic cheese grater, or a fabulous membership to a marshmallow of the month club."
So Tra La La!!!! I get to go shopping!
Unfortunately, I can't figure out what to get. Sock yarn? Laceweight? Add to my hoard of Noro? Wait you didn't hear that, I don't have Noro. No way, don't know what your talking about. (as I sit in a dark corner, fondling skeins of Silk Garden, mumbling "My precious....")

I can't think of anything more fun than roaming the "aisles" of Little Knits, dreamknitting socks with fabulous Fleece Artist, silky shawls of Sea Silk, or tiny little sweaters of Lorna's Laces.

Thanks Sockret Pal!!!!

(Don't forget the Blogiversary contest coming up on the 15th. I'll be giving away a skein if Tofootsies! )

Get out of my brain, Get onto my feet

I must knit these socks . We must convince her to sell this pattern. We must. Resistance is futile.

My Sweetpea

My little Sweetpea turned 3 at the end of January. It seems like just yesterday that my sister was standing at the end of the birthing tub, horrified at the sight of a huge baby head coming from a very private place. When I saw her, I couldn't believe that I had a little girl. As a child, I was kind of a tom boy, hating dresses, glitter, and the color pink. I kind of thought that my daughter would be the same way, seeing as she has 2 older brothers. But Sweetpea is the girliest little thing I have ever seen. Her favorite color is pink, and she LOVES princesses, mermaids, and fairies. I found her the other day, sitting in the middle of the dining room in an outfit she had put together herself. (She changes her clothes at least 5 times a day.) She was surrounded by her birthday toys and was happily playing by herself. My very own little fairy.

My blogiversary is coming up in a few days, so stay tuned! I'm going to have a wee bit of a contest.
